3 Rule Policy
Scenario 1
If a student accidentally comes in contact with an inappropriate site or inappropriate material within a site, the student should inform the teacher of which site contained inappropriate material. This will help the teacher avoid that site with other students. Acting responsibly will ensure a positive education while on the Internet.
Scenario 2
Teachers also realize that inappropriate material found accidentally in some sites may cause a disturbance in the classroom if not handled responsibly by the student. For example, it is possible to come across inappropriate material in a valid search. However if the student fails to back out of the site immediately (looking for extended periods of time) and/or calls attention to what he or she has found, by laughing, showing others, etc. this student will be removed from the computers for a minimum of two (2) days and given all work in written form. In addition, all assignments must be made up on the student's own time.
Scenario 3
The final situation that could arise is the use of deliberate search criteria of inappropriate material on the Internet. It is easy to prove the steps that the student took to get to a particular site. Any student who intentionally searches for inappropriate material will be referred to an administrator and could possibly be removed from the class with a withdrawal “F”, in which no credit will be issued. The student would also be removed from all computer classes for the remainder of the academic school year.
